Three sons left home, said goodbye to their dear single mother and went out on their own and prospered.
Getting back together, they discussed the gifts they were able to give their elderly Mother on her birthday.
They all loved her dearly, and each wanted more than anything to give her something she'd truly love.
The first said, "I built a big house for our mother.
16 rooms and a huge back yard filled with trees and flowers. A house that was used by royalty, and will give her all the space she never had."mansion
The second said, "Well I sent her a Mercedes with a private driver that'll take her anywhere she wants to go.
She never needs to drive again, and he can help her carry heavy things back to the house."
The third smiled and said, "I've got you both beat. You remember how Mom enjoyed reading the Bible?
And you know she can't see very well any more. I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible.
It took the Elders in the church 12 years to teach him. He's one of a kind.
Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot recites it."
Soon thereafter, Mom sent out her letters of thanks:
"Milton," she wrote the first son, "the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room,
but I have to clean the whole house."
"Gerald," she wrote to the second son, "I am too old to travel any more. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!"
"Dearest Donald," she wrote to her third son, "you were the only one to have the good sense to know what your Mother likes.
That chicken was delicious!!"

세아들이 집을 나가면서 혼자 살고계신 어머니에게 작별인사하고 각자 돌아가서 저들대로 성공했다.
그들은 다시 모여서 노령의 어머님 생신날에 각자 무엇을 선사할 수 있을가를 의논했다.
그들은 어머니를 모두 다 끔찍히 사랑했기에 뭣보다도 어머님이 정말 좋아하실것을 드리고 싶었다
첫째가 말했다. "난 우리 어머님을 위해서 큰 집을 하나 지었다. 방이 16개에다 뒷뜰이 큼직하여 나무와 꽃들로 꽉 차 있다.
귀한 분이 썼던 집으로 어머님이 생전 가져보지 못하신 공간을 마련해 드릴거야."
둘째가 말했다, "그래, 나는 어머님에게 운전기사가 딸린 멜세데스(벤스) 차 한대를 보냈는 데 어머님이 가시고 싶은 곳은 어디든지 가실 수 있을 게다 이거야.
이제 어머님은 다시는 운전 안하셔도 되고 무거운 짐들은 기사가 집안으로 들어다 줄수 있지."
셋째가 웃으며 말했다,
"내가 이겼네... 기억나?, 엄마가 얼마나 성경읽는 것 좋아하셨는지?
그거 알어?, 엄마는 이제는 잘 보지 못하시지. 나는 성경 전부를 암송하는 놀라운 앵무새 하나를 보내 드렸어.
그 앵무새를 가르치느라 교회 장로들이 12년이나 걸렸대. 그놈 유일무이한 독특한 명물이야.
엄마가 성경의 장과 절만 말하면 그 앵무새가 성경을 (읽듯이) 암송해 들려 드린단 말이지."
그 후로 곧 어멈은 감사의 편지를 써 보냈다.
"밀톤아," 첫아들에게 썼다,
"네가 지은 그집 너무 커. 난 방 한칸에서 사는데 집 전체를 청소해야만 하는구나.
"제랄드야", 둘째 아들에게 썼다,
" 난 더 이상 여행하기에 너무 늙었다. 내 시력이 옛날 같지 않구나.
대부분의 시간을 집안에서 보내니까 멜세데스(벤스) 별로 안쓴다. 근데 그 운전기사 아주 거친게 못되먹었어.
"내 가장 사랑하는 도날드야," 셋째에게 썼다,
"너야 말로 오직 하나 이 엄마가 뭘 좋아하는 지 잘 알아 차리는 센스가 (눈치가) 있구나.
그 닭 맛 끝내 주더구나."
